Who We Are

We're Committed to Change

On December 10, 1994, Stacey Weaver Berrier lost her battle against melanoma. A fourth-generation teacher and a loving mother, wife and friend, Stacey was just 27 years old.

Though she lost her fight, Stacey inspired her family and friends. We watched in awe as she confronted her situation with grace and dignity. Stacey overwhelmed everyone with her friendly spirit, her generous smile and her ability to put those around her at ease while battling this painful disease.

We miss her deeply.

Moving Forward

For more than two decades, Stacey’s fight has served as the inspiration behind Beat the Beast, a yearly golf tournament with proceeds dedicated to cancer-related causes. Our first tournament took place in May 1995, and we’ve held an annual event ever since. During that time, we have raised more than a half-million dollars for cancer-related causes, including the following local organizations:

Kay's Kamp

Kay’s Kamp is an American Camping Association (ACA) accredited week-long, overnight camp experience for children with cancer and those now in remission.

The Helen F. Graham Cancer Center

Providing a vast array of cancer outpatient services under one roof, making care more convenient, efficient and effective.

A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children

Considered one of the safest children’s hospitals in the country, with some of the best doctors, nurses and pediatric specialty care available.

Beads of Courage

Beads of Courage, Inc. is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children and teens coping with serious illness

Members of the Beat the Beast staff recognize that Stacey was not alone in her battle against cancer. Most of us have been affected by this terrible disease in some way. In fact, one of our founding members, Michael T. Carr, lost his own fight against cancer in 2013.

We continue to champion Stacey’s cause in memory of all who have passed and those who continue to fight against this cruel disease. Our event celebrates the lasting effect those loved ones have had on our lives. We hope you will support our cause. Please join Beat the Beast as a donor and/or participant!

So happy to be a part of the pink game with the Beat the Beast organization and Middletown Highschool.  Jonathan and I walked across the field in memory of TJ while they shared his story.

“TJ Doyle lost his two and a half year battle with colon cancer at the age of 30 in June.  TJ was an amazing husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend.  Despite his fight with cancer, TJ continued to live his life to the fullest.  He always had a smile on his face and had the most loving, outgoing personality.  TJ was an amazing athlete dedication most of his lie to numerous sports.  To this day, his courage inspires his friends and family to never give up.  He always be missed and never forgotten.

Thank you Beat the Beast, for the tremendous honor, of being part of the Pink Game for Middletown Highschool.  This was such a beautiful night, I love this team.  The boys are the kindest most polite I’ve ever met.  Every year they meet a person who is fighting cancer, they are strangers, and by the end of the game they are friends.  They meet families they represent who have won.  You ROCKED it for me number 3! Dequez Walker……..thank you……your touchdown made us smile from ear to ear!
